    The Bioenergy Kitchen Project

The Bioenergy Kitchen Project is an initiative designed to power the food business in our project regions using sustainable bioenergy. We believe that integrating circular economy principles into the food sector is essential for achieving sustainable food production and resilient, locally-driven value creation.

Bioenergy reactors play a key role in closing ecological loops by converting biomass into food, energy, fertilizer, and soil organic carbon. This holistic transformation offers climate-effective strategies that support resilient food systems at the regional level.

To process a wide variety of bioenergy substrates, we utilize both bio-methanisation and pyrolysis reactors:

Bio-methanisation handles liquid waste, slurries, fresh green biomass, and manure, converting them into bio-fertilizer for soil improvement and biogas for cooking. Biogas reactors from our partner Bert Energy start with 100kg biomass substrate per day.

Pyrolysis reactors convert the woody, lignified fraction of biomass into thermal energy for cooking and biochar, a carbon substrate used in soil enhancement and climate mitigation. The Pyrolysis reactors start with 70kg of woody biomass per
    day.

We integrate biochar and bio-fertilizer into co-composting systems to produce Terra Preta, an exceptionally fertile soil substrate known for its ability to improve soil health and sequester carbon. This setup enables precise tracking of CO₂ sequestration, making it an ideal tool for effective carbon offset strategies.

The Bioenergy Kitchen Project actively promotes regenerative agricultural practices in the region. We identify sources of biofuel substrates in cover crops and woodchips from hedgerows and forestry elements that also serve to protect soils from erosion. The project places strong emphasis on valorizing local protective planting schemes, recognizing their dual role in soil conservation and bioenergy production.
